The Central Rail Road and Canal Company was organized in 1833 by a group of Savannah businessmen. In 1835, its name changed to Central Rail Road and Banking Company of Georgia. W.H. Mims was employed by the Central of Georgia Railway Company as an electrical engineer in the Motive Power and Equipment Department from 1950 until 1954. In 1955, he was promoted to superintendent of the department, a position he held until 1964.
